OUR FIGHT AGAINST ENERGY POVERTY

For Visalia, it is crucial to provide energy to everyone. We aspire to be the transformative energy for all our customers, and to achieve this, we engage with all social issues that contribute to making the world a better place for everyone.

In 2023, the RAE recognised the term ‘energy poverty’, giving it the significance it deserves by including it as an environmental term in the Dictionary of the Spanish Language (DLE). At Visalia, we are committed to making renewable energy accessible to everyone without exclusion.

In 2022, energy poverty impacted over 17% of the Spanish population (up from 14% in 2021). In Europe, the average in 2022 was approximately 9.3%. These figures are those that Visalia, in collaboration with Fundación Luz Solidaria, aims to reduce significantly. Therefore, its supportive actions are carried out by Fundación Energía Responsable, previously known as Fundación Luz Solidaria, a non-profit organisation that operates on a participatory model, welcoming individuals, businesses, and third-sector entities to generate a social and environmental impact.

Charity Dinners

Collaboration with Fundación Energía Responsable involves fundraising, primarily through events such as the annual ‘Fundación Energía Responsable Charity Dinner’. These funds are allocated to combat energy poverty, support cancer research, assist families affected by ALS, and fulfil the dreams of children impacted by serious illnesses.

1st edition

The proceeds from the “1st Fundación Luz Solidaria Charity Dinner” were donated to the foundation’s Fight Against Energy Poverty Programme and to three other organisations that carry out important social work: Asociación AdELA, Fundación INTHEOS and Fundación Pequeño Deseo. According to the Asociación de Ciencias Ambientales (Association of Environmental Sciences) (ACA), energy poverty results in one death every 74 minutes in Spain. Preventing these figures relies on the contributions made by the companies involved in supporting the most vulnerable families.

Other Actions

At Visalia, we aim to promote collaboration between public and private entities by working directly with social services, engaging with over 80 associations and foundations, and partnering with companies in the energy sector.

For this reason, we support other foundations and NGOs by raising funds for their goals:

  • New fundraising avenues for other foundations and associations through the electricity bills of consumers who are aware of their social mission.
  • We assist other foundations and associations to participate in awareness-raising programmes and reduce their environmental impact.
